Lower Kingdom

Our Process
The project began with the removal of concrete slabs throughout the "Lower Kingdom," a charming courtyard located behind a historic building. The old slabs were lifted, the sub-base was removed, and both the slabs and sub-base were transported out of the courtyard. To replace the old surface, we sourced some beautiful reclaimed York stone from Chichester Yorkstone Sales. The stone was then brought into the courtyard and laid on a bed of sharp sand and cement to provide a stable and durable foundation.

Adaptability & Sustainability
The transformation looked so stunning that the client decided to extend the same treatment to the stepwork, having it finished with the same reclaimed York stone. Once the stones were laid, we pointed them with a traditional sand and cement mortar, ensuring a finish that was in keeping with the surroundings and complemented the building’s character.

The Result
Finally, to protect the integrity and appearance of the new surface, we cleaned the slabs thoroughly and applied a high-quality sealant. This ensures that the courtyard will maintain its beauty for many years to come.
