We commenced by constructing the base for the Alitex greenhouse, incorporating elegant Cassandra bricks, local clunch stone panels and a subtle mortar blend to harmonise with the surrounding walling. The greenhouse was designed with thoughtfully arranged planting both within and around the terraced areas, creating a seamless integration with the landscape.

Adaptability & Sustainability

Subsequently, we transformed a large, overgrown and otherwise unusable area by levelling the ground and installing a perforated land drain that directed water into a discreet soakaway. A Type 1 base was then laid over a geotextile membrane, topped with a layer of carefully selected pea shingle. To enhance the overall aesthetic, we graded the bank above the area, softening the transition and creating a more lawn-like appearance.

The Result

We then crafted elegant planters and retaining edges from high-quality hardwood sleepers, finishing off the levels with rich topsoil. Meanwhile, another team worked meticulously on the restoration of the historic flint wall at the bottom of the area. Using lime mortar and carefully salvaged flint, they repointed and reinforced the wall’s structure, restoring its former grandeur. The client, impressed by their craftsmanship, fondly referred to them as the “wall doctors.”
